What it is
Agentforce is Salesforce's autonomous AI agent layer, built on Service Cloud.
What you'd use it for
You would use Agentforce, if your service runs on Salesforce, to add AI agents that reason over your CRM data, plan multi-step tasks, and resolve cases with limited human help.
Examples of use
A customer raises a service case. The AI agent reasons over the customer data already in Salesforce CRM and resolves it from there.
A request needs several steps to settle. The Atlas reasoning engine plans the steps and works through them with limited human help.
A customer has a routine question. Agentforce handles it in self-service before it ever becomes a case.
A case is passed to another agent. Agentforce summarises it so the next person picks it up fast.
A team already runs its service on Salesforce. It adds an AI agent without leaving the Salesforce stack.
A company wants support automation close to its other data. Agentforce puts it on the same platform as sales and CRM.
How it works
Agentforce runs on the Atlas reasoning engine, which plans and revises a course of action using chain-of-thought prompting over defined topics, retrieving data from Salesforce Data Cloud.
How it compares
Agentforce is the natural choice for a company already on Salesforce, the way Zendesk AI is for a Zendesk shop. Against the standalone autonomous agents such as Decagon, its pull is the deep tie to Salesforce data, and its cost is the dependence on the Salesforce stack.
What others say
Salesforce Service Cloud is a Leader in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for the CRM Customer Engagement Center. Press reporting also documents early-adopter friction: hallucinations, missing guardrails, and a data-cleanup burden.
